Intervention Recommendation Guide
Support Your Child with Behavior Intervention Guide
Once you understand why a behavior is happening, the next step is knowing how to respond. Our Intervention Recommendation Guide lists strategies for common behavior challenges:
Attention-seeking behavior – helping your child get attention in positive ways
Avoiding tasks – encouraging your child to complete tasks
Wanting access to items – teaching your child to earn things they want while following expectations
The guide focuses on consistency, clear expectations, and building real skills over time. Using it can help your child grow confident and independent while making family life calmer and more predictable.
How to Use the Guide
First, identify the function of your child’s behavior using the ABC tracker (step 1) and QABF (step 2).
Next, find the section in the guides that matches the behavior function.
Then, review the strategies listed and choose the ones that fit your child and family.
Last, apply the strategies consistently and notice how your child responds.

Tip for Families
Start with one or two strategies at a time. Small, consistent changes often lead to the biggest improvements in behavior.
